From Tech Tycoon to Wildlife Conservationist: The Story Behind Ox Hunting Ranch
Brent Oxley, founder of HostGator, turned his dream of owning a ranch into a stunning reality with Ox Hunting Ranch, a one-of-a-kind conservation and adventure destination in Uvalde and Kinney Counties. After selling his company in 2012, Oxley purchased what is now an 18,000-acre haven for over 90 species of animals, including giraffes, zebras, and endangered wildlife — all roaming freely in carefully managed habitats.
What started as a weekend hunting retreat quickly evolved into Oxley’s full-time home and passion project. The ranch blends rugged luxury, hands-on conservation, exotic wildlife, and even functional WWII tanks for guests to experience. Visitors can enjoy guided safaris, luxury cabins, gourmet dining, and eco-conscious recreation like “glamping,” fishing, and even tank driving.
Despite operating at a financial loss, Oxley sees the Ox Ranch as a lifelong mission to protect wildlife, restore ecosystems, and create a legacy for future generations. “It’s not about the money,” he says, “It’s my love of nature and conservation that brought Ox Ranch to what it is today.”
